The "Sagara Ningyo" is one of the three major earthen dolls of the Tohoku region, along with the "Tsutsumi Ningyo" of Sendai and the "Hanamaki Ningyo" of Hanamaki. This is a work by Takashi Sagara, the seventh generation of doll makers. The motif is a Chinese child carrying a drum. Drums have been played in various ceremonies and are believed to be a way to communicate with the gods. It is a beautiful work with vivid colors and carefully crafted details. I have never seen this motif before, so I believe it is valuable. - It still looks good at first glance, but it is an old item, so it is being sold with some scratches and stains.
