Kogin-zashi is a traditional sashiko embroidery technique from the Tsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture. It originated from the practice of reinforcing and insulating linen kimono with white cotton thread, using geometric patterns, to make the harsh, long Tsugaru winters more comfortable. I bought it because I liked the pattern, intending to arrange it into a magnet, but it's been sitting unused (it sticks to magnets).
