This is a used GRINNING DOG GREY PB pickup. It's a custom model using vintage Western Electric cable (20ga), resulting in a more hi-fi sound with an expanded range and improved clarity. As a P-Bass pickup, it's remarkably vintage-sounding while also being easy to handle – a truly excellent pickup. It's a highly trusted brand, as Seiji Kameda of Tokyo Jihen uses GRINNING DOG pickups in both his main '66 Jazz Bass and his '62 Precision Bass. After purchasing it new, I had it installed in a sub-bass for about six months, but I rarely used it. I removed the pickup and stored it when I sold the bass. It was fully functional when removed. Both installation and removal were handled by a repairman specializing in major musical instrument stores. This pickup is recommended for those considering replacing their pickups with Seymour Duncan, Fender, or similar, rather than a modern type.
