I've installed pickups like the Custom Shop '54 PU and Lindy Fralin Real '54 in my Custom Shop '54 and '57 Stratocasters, but this 70th Anniversary PU fulfills everything that was lacking in those two pickups. Since the commemorative model pickups stop being sold once the final shipment of that year is gone, it's recommended for those who are interested or who feel something is missing from the Custom Shop '54 PU or Lindy Fralin Real '54. I have it installed in a Custom Shop '57 Stratocaster, and it has a very natural sound. It's more natural and balanced than the Custom Shop '54 PU and Lindy Fralin Real '54, which have a strong artificial bell-like sound and a slightly lacking mid-range. Especially the richness of the mid-range, the natural bell-like tone, and the way the tone changes with the strength of the picking are truly vintage. The low output and Alnico 3 magnets produce a more natural, aged sound. It really sounds just like a vintage '54 or '55 Alnico 3 Stratocaster, it's amazing. This is a mature pickup that won't suit those who like flashy sounds or a scooped EQ.
