This is a fukuro obi (formal obi) featuring illustrations of the Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry. The Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry refers to the thirty-six master poets of the Heian period, as listed in Fujiwara no Kinto's "Thirty-Six Poetic Immortals." This obi appears to be based on the composition of Ogata Korin's "Thirty-Six Poetic Immortals." It includes figures like Ono no Komachi, Ariwara no Narihira, and Ki no Tsurayuki. It is an otaiko pattern, but other parts also feature small embroidery of autumn leaves and plum blossoms in gold and silver thread on a white background. Including the embroidered parts, it is a rokutsu pattern (six-section pattern). The pale purple stripes on the right edge are also effective. I believe the material is silk. There are small stains in places, but I don't think they are very noticeable when worn. Please refer to photos 8-10. There are almost no creases in the center of the hand-held side, so I think it hasn't been worn much. Please refrain from purchasing if you are concerned. It will be folded and sent.
