It is a tribal rug from the Turkmen people residing in northern Afghanistan, and it is from a sub-tribe called akhal gul, which is similar to the Tekke gul. The design is fundamentally characteristic of the diligent Turkmen, and one can sense the robustness of a nomadic people. The size is a long, single type, perfect for a bedside. Please check the images for slight color bleeding, which is characteristic of natural dyes. As a vintage rug from around 50 years ago, it doesn't show much wear and tear.
