These are individual plates featuring famous Kyoto landmarks. They depict "Gozan no Okuribi" (the Daimonji fire), Byodo-in Temple's Phoenix Hall, Kiyomizu-dera Temple's stage, the black torii gate of Nonomiya Shrine, and the thousand torii gates of Fushimi Inari Shrine (photos 5-9). Each of the five plates has the Hokuhou mark stamped on the foot. The original box has "Kyoto Meisho Zue Kashi-zara" (Kyoto Famous Places Picture Sweet Plate) on the lid and "Heian Hokuhou Sei" (Made by Heian Hokuhou) on the underside of the lid. There are high-quality gold repairs on one spot at Fushimi Inari and two spots at Kiyomizu-dera (photos 14-16). There are two small chips, about 0.5mm each, on the Daimonji fire plate, only noticeable with a magnifying glass (photo 17). Please check the photos for details. The firing is good. The plates are wrapped in old newspapers (Showa 35, 1960), indicating they have been carefully preserved for a long time. Original box included. Diameter: 13.9 cm, Height: 2.2 cm ▢ First Generation Daimaru Hokuhou Born in Daishoji, Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture in 1879, died in 1959. He was instructed in ceramic painting by Okura Seishichi at the Kutani Pottery Company, and then moved to Kyoto in 1899 and studied under Kitayama Sekisen. In 1906, he was invited as a teacher to the Hunan Ceramic Industry School in Hunan Province, China, and also devoted himself to the study of Chinese ceramics. He returned to Japan in 1909. Back in Kyoto, he mainly produced tea ceremony utensils and sencha utensils, focusing on porcelain. He exhibited at numerous exhibitions, winning gold and silver prizes in most of them, and became a buyer for the Imperial Household Agency. He was certified as a technical expert, but died in 1959. His techniques were passed on to the second generation Hokuhou. His pottery marks include "Hokuhou Zo" (Made by Hokuhou) in sometsuke (blue and white), "Sesshuan Hokuhou Sei" (Made by Sesshuan Hokuhou), and the common mark "Hokuhou". 【Reference】 The Grand Tea Ceremony Dictionary, Tankosha #Why not have your own tea utensils? #TeaUtensils #MeimeiPlate #KashiKi #Confectionery #JapaneseConfectionery #Omotesenke #Urasenke #Mushakojisenke #AntiqueArt #SennoRikyu #Sometsuke #DaimaruHokuhou #Ro #Furo #Chaji #Koicha #Usucha #TeaCeremony #AntiqueArt #Antique #Kyoto #Chanoyu #TeaRoom
