Okayama Traditional Craft: Ujo-bori Two-Tiered Food Box This piece was made by my father when he was learning Ujo-bori. He did the carving, and the lacquer work was commissioned to a professional craftsman (cost: 16,000 yen). Commercially available items usually have set motifs, but since my father carves what he wants, this is a one-of-a-kind piece! The lid features poinsettias and pine, and the sides are carved with a family crest, with gold paint adding to the luxurious feel. The red lacquer on the inside is also beautiful.
