Sonny Rollins, a giant of modern jazz tenor saxophone, remains highly popular as one of the figures who built the history of jazz. He has been active for a long time and has left behind many historical masterpieces, but he is also famous for repeatedly experimenting, such as temporarily disappearing in search of new music. This album was recorded just before his second "evaporation," and features Rollins' powerful, dynamic, and delicate blowing, from up-tempo to ballads, backed by a powerful rhythm section of Wynton Kelly (p), Doug Watkins (b), and Philly Joe Jones (ds). It starts off briskly with Tune Up, a famous song by Miles Davis, and Asiatic Raes on A-2 is the same song as Lotus Blossom on Kenny Dorham's masterpiece, Quiet Kenny, making the overall selection attractive. This is the best one-horn album to kick off the Blue Note 4000 series, which features a constellation of shining masterpieces. US Blue Note BST 84001 stereo blue label The original was released in 1959, but this is a 1974 US reissue, and the jacket has some scratches and yellowing due to aging. The record has some small pressing errors (see photo 7), and a few small noises will occur, but otherwise, the noise is minimal and in good condition. There is no vangelder stamp, but the wonderful stereo sound resonates. It comes with the original company sleeve, although it is torn.
