This is a cup & saucer from Herend's popular Apponyi Green series, used by the Hungarian royal family. When Japan exhibited at the Paris Exposition in 1867 for the first time, Herend created "Indian Basket" (also known as Indian Flower) modeled after Kakiemon ware imported from Japan to entertain the Japanese. Also, on one occasion, a count named Apponyi urgently requested Herend to design new tableware in time for a party. Herend created tableware with a design based on Indian Basket.
