This is an antique kobukusa (small tea ceremony cloth) made of Jōō-donzu, a type of valuable textile (meibutsu-gire) particularly prized in Japanese tea ceremony. It features a woven pattern of single-stemmed arabesque with rain dragons and flames. This item was kept by my grandmother, who was a tea ceremony instructor for many years. I believe it is unused, but there are some slight stains due to aging (see photos 7 and 8 - same areas). The back of the box also shows signs of aging (photo 10).
