Size: Diameter 11.8cm, Height approx. 8cm *Please forgive any slight size discrepancies due to amateur inspection. Zeze-yaki is pottery fired in the Zeze area of Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, and is one of the "Enshu Seven Kilns," renowned for tea ceremony utensils. Yoen, a kiln that carries on this tradition, is known for creating works that incorporate a modern sensibility. This item is a matcha bowl by Shintei Iwasaki, the second-generation potter of Yoen. He inherited the techniques of Zeze-yaki, which his father, Kenzo Iwasaki, revived. After studying ceramics at Kyoto Municipal University of Arts, he produced numerous works incorporating various expressions such as colored painting and sometsuke (blue and white). In 1985, it was designated as a Traditional Craft Product of Shiga Prefecture, and in 1991, he was awarded as a contributor to traditional industries by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. Shintei Iwasaki's matcha bowls, which combine dignity and delicacy, are highly regarded by tea masters and collectors. "Home tea ceremony" has become popular recently.
