Thank you for viewing. This is a cinnabar lacquer inkstone case with a landscape painting carving. Tsuishu (cinnabar lacquer) is a type of chokoku-shikki (carved lacquerware), a technique in which lacquer is repeatedly applied to the surface of a base to create layers, and patterns are expressed in relief. In Japan, items with a red surface are called "Tsuishu," those with a black surface are called "Tsuikoku (black lacquer)," and those with a yellow surface are called "Tsuiou (yellow lacquer)" (quoted from Wikipedia). It is an old item, so there are fine scratches and peeling (see photo 5). How about it as a small item case or antique?
