Compatible with induction heating and direct flame. It's Teflon or fluorine-coated, I'm not sure which, but the inside is non-stick. The thermometer is working accurately. I've only used water, so there's no smell inside. I've used it a few times over a direct flame, so the bottom shows signs of use.
