Purchased from an antique shop in New York. This is a very rare, large Collins & Co. sign plate. It's a rare double-sided type. The company was a manufacturer of the highest quality axes at the time, located in Connecticut, and this sign was made for export. Now that you mention it, it has a unique axe-shaped form. It's made of authentic, thick, old enamel and is quite heavy. It's chic with white lettering on a black background. It also has a company emblem-like design, which is lovely. It's quite beautiful for an old enamel sign, but as you can see in the photos, there are some minor imperfections around the edges. There's a hole at the top, and a wire is attached. It would instantly create an antique atmosphere if displayed casually in a room, shop, or even outdoors. These kinds of truly used, old sign plates are almost unavailable in America, and they are surprisingly expensive even there. Many Americans collect these signs because they are wonderful to have, no matter how many you own. This is also a collector's item.
