This is a mini pillow made with Seima (purified hemp fiber) and Magomo (a type of rush). It's made from scraps created during the crafting process, and includes some Seima dyed with plant-based dyes. (I use it as a pillow under my neck. It's not really big enough to be a pillow. It flattens quickly, so think of it more like a small mat.) Seima is known for its unique energy and has been used since ancient times to purify impurities (spiritual defilement) that cannot be cleansed by salt or seawater, to ward off evil spirits, and to bring good fortune. It is also said to have the effect of balancing the mind and body. Magomo has been called "the grass where the gods reside" since ancient times, and has been treated with great care as a sacred object and spiritual grass in shrines throughout the country. It is also used as shimenawa (sacred straw ropes).
