This pattern, designed in 1876, is one of Morris's favorite designs among the Indian chintz prints he designed. It depicts bell-shaped Fritillaria flowers, called "Snake's Head," with clusters of these small flowers and leaves alternating with larger, more formal motifs. The delicate tendrils that make up the background create a dramatic flame-like effect, with the motifs and intertwined thorny tufts appearing to float. This linen-blend interior fabric has almost no transparency. It is recommended for curtains, cushion covers, as well as small items such as aprons and bags, and for creating works such as cartonnage.
