After only 7 live performances, they sparked a fierce bidding war between major and independent labels, and in 1992, just three months after their live debut, they made a sensational major debut with the EP "Opiate." Ten months after the release of "Opiate," they released their debut full album "Undertow" in 1993. On tours with Rollins Band, Fishbone, and Rage Against the Machine, TOOL's unique sound, worldview, and overwhelming live performance completely set them apart from other heavy rock/alternative acts. They received an offer to perform on the main stage of Lollapalooza that year, and TOOL gradually became a "monster." "Opiate" sold nearly 1.3 million copies despite being an EP, and "Undertow" sold nearly 4 million copies. Their second album, "Ænima," released in 1996, reached number 2 on the US charts, and TOOL established their position and fanbase as a solitary presence. After that, their 3rd album "Lateralus" (2001) and 4th album "10,000 Days" (2006) both topped the US album charts, continuing their rapid success. In Japan, they have come to the country many times, starting with their performance at the Fuji Rock Festival in 2001, followed by performances at Summer Sonic in 2006 and Ozzfest in 2013, steadily gaining enthusiastic fans in Japan. In 2019, they released their fifth album, "Fear Inoculum," after a 13-year hiatus, and it topped the US album charts again, following its predecessor.
