A plant pattern is depicted with shades of black ink. The reason for the "as-is" condition is a subtle line on the tare (the hanging part of the obi). (Photo 9) The shop owner suspects that a pattern was originally planned for the tare, but it was changed at the last minute to a plain design for a cleaner look. In any case, there is no problem with the otaiko (the part that forms the back of the obi). Also, there is a stain on the otaiko part that is hard to see unless you look closely.
