Yomitan Hanaori (Yuntanza Hana-ui) is a textile produced in Yomitan Village, Nakagami District, Okinawa Prefecture. The unique design of Hanaori comes from the "Hanaori" weaving technique, which was passed down from southern Java. In the past, it was used as a fabric for the Ryukyu royal family, and ordinary people other than the residents of Yomitan were not allowed to wear it. Among the various dyed and woven products in Okinawa, Hanaori stands out as being extremely unique. Hanaori means a beautiful woven fabric with flower patterns. However, the flower patterns are not realistic floral designs, but rather are expressed with delicate dots created by floating weave. Some look more like stars than flowers. The charm of Hanaori lies in the delicate small flower-shaped patterns and the weaving that exudes a southern island feel through its colors and patterns.
