It was in the midst of the guitar instrumental boom, and the boss, John McLaughlin, had already reached a dimension beyond anyone's reach, showing an overwhelming, exceptional presence as if saying, "Can you do this?" Even rock guitarists could imitate Mahavishnu's performance to some extent, but they probably couldn't imitate Shakti. It's strange that even though they were performing such amazing music, they didn't receive proper recognition from critics or even jazz fans. The only saving grace is that Miles Davis seemed to have recognized his greatness early on. There are no words for this performance unit's superb technique.
