The holes have been filled with metal. They are screw-back type, making them easy to wear. At 9mm and up, these are quite large pearls. There are some minor blemishes, but they are round and have a good luster, making them quite impressive. Pearl prices are currently high, so the price is of course high for this size and quality, but I think it's a good value.
