Beethoven: Symphony No. 6 "Pastoral" Rotterdam Philharmonic (recorded 1967) This recording was made just before Münch, after ending his freelance activities following his retirement from the Boston Symphony in 1962, took on the role of music director of the Orchestre de Paris, known for its famous EMI recordings of Brahms' First Symphony and other works. It was a time when Münch, despite his advanced age, was trying to bloom one last, brilliant flower, and here, even in his final years, we are astonished by the explosive energy radiating from him.
