This is an Akama suzuri (inkstone) made of natural stone from Choshu Yamaguchi, crafted over a hundred years ago. It's a historically valuable and exceptionally fine piece, quite large in size. The surface has a natural, unpolished finish, intentionally leaving chisel marks to create a unique landscape. The craftsmanship is elaborate, and the year of production, the maker's signature, and the maker's age at the time of creation are carved on the back. If my assessment is correct, this is a remarkably valuable work, potentially worthy of registration as a cultural asset of Yamaguchi Prefecture. However, my amateur opinion isn't very reliable. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful piece. In a typical transaction, it would likely sell for no less than 50,000 yen, but I acquired it at a low price, under 10,000 yen, so I'm offering it at a significantly reduced price.
