This is a square lacquerware container with arabesque design maki-e. I'm not sure what this container was used for. Perhaps a confectionery container? Also, I named it "arabesque design," but I'm not certain. If anyone knows what kind of pattern it is, please let me know. It is unsigned and comes in a fitted box. There is one spot on the underside of the lid and the edge where the red lacquer is not applied (please see the photos).
