Head Circumference: Approximately 57cm This is a vintage bowler hat, a special order model made by GLYN & Co (Glyn), a long-established hat maker in London, England, for the Japanese department store, Mitsukoshi. Inside, the hat is stamped with "MADE EXPRESSLY FOR MITSUKOSHI" and features a "HATTERS & TRIMMERS UNION" label (vintage tag, made in the USA), as well as the GLYN & Co / LONDON emblem. This combination is very rare, and it is believed to be a high-quality gentleman's hat imported and sold around the pre-war to early post-war period (around the 1940s). When purchased from a recycle shop, a copy of the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper dated November 4, Showa 21 (1946) (the day the new constitution was promulgated) was found inside the hat. Overall, there are scuffs and minor stains due to aging, and there is a dent on the top. This item is being sold to organize a collection after being purchased from a recycle shop.
