The maker is unknown. The nohkan itself is probably old. When I purchased it, beeswax had melted and flowed into the tube. I asked a flute maker to remove the melted beeswax, repaint the inside of the tube, and refill it with beeswax, adjusting the inside. Both the hishigi (high notes) and ryo-on (low notes) sound good. When I purchased it, I was told that the body was soot bamboo with a birch bark wrapping, but the authenticity is unknown, so I've priced it accordingly. The throat can also be confirmed. There are no insect bites on the body. I am selling it because I purchased a new nohkan.
