While not very well-known in Japan, she was the first woman to successfully complete a solo flight across the Atlantic. She is one of America's representative heroines. During an around-the-world flight near the equator, she disappeared, and neither the aircraft nor her remains were found, becoming one of history's mysteries that continues to be told today.
