This is a set of Imperial clock and 7-light candelabra made in Italy. The base and candelabra are made of marble, giving them a substantial weight. All 7 candelabra lights are made of brass. Often mistaken for angels, they are actually depictions of a Roman god, a faun. The upper body is human, and the lower body is that of a goat. The rooster on top of the clock is a "cock" or male chicken. Certain breeds of chickens/roosters were considered sacred in ancient Rome and were used when making important decisions. The faun is holding grape vines. Grape arabesque patterns symbolize abundance and prosperity, and because grapes grow by winding in all directions, they are treated as a symbol of success and good luck. They also have the meaning of prosperity of descendants and being blessed with children. Made in Italy by Lancini Imperial.
