"Chusen" has been a popular technique for dyeing yukata and hand towels since ancient times. Invented by the Japanese, it's a unique technique that can only be done in Japan. Unlike hand-printing, where dye is applied one sheet at a time, "Chusen" was devised as a mass-production technique, dyeing about 200 sheets at once. Over time, it has incorporated new tools, techniques, and improved dyes, expanding its range of expression. It has been loved by the common people and has played a part in popular art. A characteristic feature is that both sides are dyed the same. Enjoy it seasonally as room decor, a tapestry, or a noren (Japanese shop curtain). The 4th image is a noren.
