I understand this came from the storehouse of an old, wealthy merchant in Hyogo Prefecture. These are beautiful nimono-wan (lidded bowls for simmered dishes) with delicate sometsuke (underglaze blue) decoration. The gold paint is considerably worn and faded, but the pine, bamboo, and plum design on the bottom of the bowls still has a luster and is very beautiful.
