Based on the non-fiction essay "Ani no Shimai" by Rieko Murai, which is based on her own experiences, the film depicts the chaotic four days of a family that begins with the sudden death of her estranged brother. One day, Riko receives a phone call from the police. It was the news that her brother, whom she hadn't seen in years, had died. It was Ryoichi, the son who lived with her brother, who found him. "Let's make my brother portable." Thinking so, Riko heads to Tohoku and reunites with her brother's ex-wife, Kanako, and her daughter, Marina, at the police station for the first time in seven years. While cleaning up the apartment that had become a garbage-filled house where her brother lived, the three of them find a family photo stuck on the wall. There were photos of her brother and Riko as children, as well as photos of her brother, Kanako, Marina, and Ryoichi, the family her brother had built.
