The wooden box says: Gold Maki-e Vermilion Clay Soup Bowl Taisho 1st Year (1912) The washi paper bag says: Vermilion Clay, Double Coat Sou-sabiji (Overall Rust Ground) Tokyo Aizawa Shop Sou-sabiji (Overall Rust Ground) A technique used as a base for lacquerware, using only sabi-urushi (rust lacquer) to create unique unevenness and patterns on the surface of the lacquerware. Sabi-urushi (rust lacquer) is made by mixing iron powder with lacquer, and when dried, it creates a rusty texture on the surface. Taisho 1st Year (1912) 113 years ago Considering the age, I think the condition is very good. Size (amateur measurement) Diameter 12cm Height (with lid on) 7cm It's small, so it might be too small for ozoni (New Year's soup). It would also be lovely for serving sweets or ice cream!
