The St. Luke Passion, once attributed to J.S. Bach and given the BWV 246 catalog number, is now an anonymous "Passion" shrouded in mystery. Compared to the authentic Matthew and John Passions, it's less stuffy and only about 70 minutes long, making it popular among Bach fans. The grandeur and depth are remarkable, having once been considered a Bach Passion, and Carl Orff's arrangement adds a sense of euphoria. The use of the children's choir is particularly exquisite, and the Orff-esque (Carmina Burana) scale that emerges towards the end, with the chaotic drumming of timpani and bells, is 100% un-Bach-like, which is interesting. *Slight damage to the obi and Japanese commentary. However, this deliberate absurdity might be Orff's black humor.
