【Opium Weight】Opium Weight Steed Bird This is a heavy and decoratively appealing opium weight. Opium weights were used as commercial balance weights by the public in Burma, Thailand, and southern China from around the 13th century. They were mainly used during opium transactions. Many of them are based on animal motifs such as birds, lions, and elephants, and they have many collectors worldwide, making them a popular item for antique collection. In Myanmar, the shape of the weights changed over time and were also used as symbols of power. In the 19th century, elaborate designs such as animals disappeared. This one is based on the mythical bird Hinda. Height: Approximately 5 cm Weight: 159g A bird-shaped marking can be seen on the side, but it is unclear whether it is an engraving (photo 9).
