This is a cufflink and tie pin set featuring pure gold inlay, a traditional handcrafted technique from Kyoto. The outer box shows some discoloration due to long-term storage, but the items themselves are in beautiful condition as they have been hardly used. Kyo-zogan, a traditional craft of Kyoto, involves using a specialized chisel called a "tagane" to create extremely fine grooves on the surface of the base metal. Gold and silver are then hammered into these grooves, creating various patterns through their colors and raised surfaces. This technique, where the grooves are laid out vertically and horizontally like the weave of a fabric, is also known as "nunome-zogan" (cloth-grain inlay).
