Saimyo-ji Temple is a Tendai sect temple located in Ikedera, Kora-cho, Inukami-gun, Shiga Prefecture. The principal image is Yakushi Nyorai (the Medicine Buddha). The founder was Priest Sanshu. Along with Kongorin-ji Temple and Hyakusai-ji Temple, it is counted as one of the "Koto Sanzan" (three mountains of eastern Lake Biwa). It is the 32nd temple on the Saigoku Yakushi 49 Reijo pilgrimage route. The temple grounds are famous for their autumn leaves. This offering is a set of two items: a goshuin (temple stamp) and a history document. Saimyo-ji Temple was founded in the Heian period by the imperial decree of Emperor Ninmyo. It is said that the temple was named "Saimyo-ji" because the light emitted by Yakushi Nyorai illuminated the western sky towards the Imperial Palace in Kyoto. Saimyo-ji Temple is known as a famous autumn leaf spot in the prefecture, but it is actually a "moss temple," where you can enjoy beautiful and healing scenery throughout the four seasons.
