The "Ueda Shishi," a work of Shinshu folk art. The Ueda Shishi is a traditional wood carving craft produced in and around Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture. The Ueda Shishi originates from a lion dance performed when Sanada Masayuki, the father of Yukimura Sanada, built Ueda Castle. It has since become a local lucky charm. This craft is called "peasant art" and was created by local farmers, enjoyed as everyday household goods and decorative items.
