A set of six silver dessert picks from CHRISTOPH WIDMANN, a long-established West German silverware manufacturer founded in Pforzheim, southern Germany, in 1919. The picks feature a design of various musical instruments being played on grapes, and are called "Medieval Musicians." A trombonist, cellist, drummer, horn player, accordionist, and violinist are all exquisitely and delicately reproduced. The silver has an antique-like patina, giving it a charming appearance. Unfortunately, Christoph Widmann went out of business a few years ago, and only existing silverware is in circulation, making these difficult to obtain. Christoph Widmann is also famous for the Hildesheim Rose, another popular motif for silver cutlery. Stamped with "Silver 835" and the "W" of WIDMANN. The silver hallmark 835 is also known as vintage silver 835 and was once common in Europe, such as Germany and the Netherlands. It is composed of 83.5% pure silver and the remaining 16.5% is an alloy metal such as copper. It is said to have a slightly tin-like texture and a softer feel compared to pure silver. It was mainly used for antique jewelry and silverware in Europe. It is rare in the sense that it is a hallmark used in the past and is no longer in use. These dessert picks were purchased locally by my father in the 70s or 80s. They have been stored in the box for a long time. The side of the box had writing in marker indicating the contents, so I applied masking tape to cover it up as it was unsightly. The box itself has no tears or stains, and the plastic lid is in good condition. Although they are new and unused, I have listed them as "near new."
