I have remade a black, unused mourning kimono. It was carefully unpicked, hand-washed, and ironed before being made. The blouse has dolman sleeves for easy on and off. It has a roll collar, but the front is slightly lowered, widening the collar width, which creates a softly folded effect around the neckline. The opening is in the back with two buttons. The pants are balloon pants, offering a comfortable fit. The fabric has a nice drape, making the pants look slim despite their width. Two lines of elastic are used, with a thin string threaded through for a secure fit. There is a slash pocket on the right side only. The pant hems have four darts, creating a neat look. They are slightly shorter than full-length pants, reaching around the ankles. This set is perfect for ceremony wear, but can also be worn separately. The pants can be paired with a cardigan, the blouse with a light-colored skirt or pants, or both can be worn under a coat. The kimono was made of very high-quality silk. For washing, dry cleaning is recommended, but you can also hand wash gently with a detergent for delicate fabrics like Acron, lightly use fabric softener, short spin, and hang to dry in the shade.
