This is a work by a famous artist of Ryukei Suzuri, a specialty product of Tatsuno, Shinshu. Ryukei Suzuri are made by carving and hollowing out stone, a method dating back to the feudal era. They were popular among refined samurai who appreciated ornamental stones, and were a specialty product of the Takato domain, greatly supporting the domain's finances. This piece is a masterpiece that fully expresses the good characteristics of Ryukei Suzuri and is the work of a famous artist. The inscription "Ryukei Isseki Saku" (Made by Ryukei Isseki) is carved on the back, and I believe it is a truly wonderful piece.
