U.S. Military Surplus Luggage tags that were extremely popular from the late 1930s to the early 1940s. Made of nickel, they were sold at PXs and other locations with designs for various departments such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Medical. As indicated by the "RETURN TO" inscription, the return address was stamped in the ruled area, serving as a return tag. This was not for fashion or decoration, but a functional tag used by the U.S. Post Office. This one is from the U.S. Army Air Force, the predecessor of the U.S. Air Force, also known as the Army Air Corps. There is a "A2032" stamp on the back, but the front is blank, so it can be considered almost deadstock. It can be attached to travel bags, suitcases, or used as a dog tag, necklace, or keychain. It seems that both silver and gold colors were available for each design, but this is the particularly rare gold color. Outer dimensions: 42mm x 21mm
