# Click here for a list of Atelier Leda's Medallion Necklaces ✼••┈┈┈••✼••┈┈••✼••┈┈┈••✼ This is a medallion necklace containing a relic of St. Padre Pio, the patron saint of youth, healing of the sick, volunteers, and stress relief ✧*。 † St. Padre Pio † (Padre Pio da Pietrelcina) Francesco Forgione, later known as Padre Pio, was born in 1887 in Pietrelcina, a rural town in southern Italy. Francesco entered the Capuchin Order in 1903 and was called Brother Pio, after the patron saint of his hometown. Later, in 1910, Padre Pio, who had become a priest, experienced an event that would greatly change his destiny on September 7th of that year. While Padre Pio was praying, Christ and the Virgin Mary appeared before him and gave Padre Pio the stigmata. The stigmata is a phenomenon in which wounds similar to those of Christ when he was crucified appear on believers. The stigmata caused intense pain, but it is said that it was healed by prayer. However, his suffering continued thereafter. In August 1918, while hearing people's confessions, he had a vision of Christ piercing his side, and he actually suffered a wound accompanied by bleeding. One month later, Christ appeared before him again, and this time he received the stigmata in the same five places as Christ. It is said that these stigmata did not disappear from Padre Pio's body for the 50 years until his death. In 1947, he told Karol Wojtyła, who would later become Pope John Paul II, "You will reach the highest position in the Catholic Church." It was only four years after Wojtyła had entered the priesthood. There are also stories of him curing incurable diseases such as a woman with cancer, a blind girl, and a man with leukemia, and of helping a pilot during World War II. After his death, the stigmata disappeared cleanly, and his body is still not decomposed. A part of Padre Pio's clothing is embedded on the back of the medallion.
