This is a khaki version of the BDU jacket, featuring four flap pockets, using ripstop fabric, a material traditionally used by the US military since the 1960s. This slightly thin fabric has reinforcing threads woven in a grid pattern at 5-8mm intervals to provide both breathability and strength in tropical zones such as jungles and deserts. The name "Rip Stop" means to prevent tearing. Nylon fibers are sewn in a grid pattern to prevent further tearing even if the fabric rips.
