Thank you for viewing. This is a Kyoto-style painted clay doll, modeled after Benkei from the Kabuki play "Kanjincho." It depicts the pose from the climax scene where he performs a dance, with detailed depictions of the stage costume, including the checkered pattern on the costume, the black haori, and the eboshi with a chin strap. The facial expression and the red accents are unique to hand-painted pieces. Traces of the original pigments can be seen in places. • The left arm is missing (originally held a kongojo staff). • There are scratches, stains, and age-related spots on the surface. • The hanging string is a later replacement. • Comes with a wooden storage box (kyobako).
