I purchased this from the artist approximately 20 years ago at a department store product exhibition. (The artist, Takayuki Sato, passed away a few years ago.) Takayuki Sato isn't famous, but his name is listed in the "Yearbook of Japanese Artists" and the "Dictionary of World Artists." When I asked what kind of wood it was carved from, the explanatory paper said "Japanese snowbell tree (Egonoki)." The color has deepened with the passage of time. 〈Size〉Height: Approximately 20cm, Maximum Width: Approximately 8.5cm It cost around 20,000 yen at the time of purchase.
