# Tail Doll I have relisted the item after revising the price and the kimono. Horyusai No. 12, 42cm This is an Ichimatsu doll from the early Showa era. The maker of this doll sometimes wraps the body with paper that has the character "龍 (ryu - dragon)" written on it, but this girl has a red seal (Japan Toy Control Association) that indicates the era instead of a maker's mark. I looked it up and found out that it was only used for four years, from 1941 to the end of the war. It is a trace of the era when the use of metal was controlled. Horyusai is known as a doll maker with good workmanship, and is especially favored by advanced Ichimatsu doll collectors. The gofun skin has a pearlescent luster. If you look closely, you can see that the technique of reproducing human skin, known as nashi-ji, is used. The eyes and eyebrows are symmetrical, and she has a gentle and calm expression. As always, when I see a Horyusai girl, I am always reminded of the great star of yesteryear, Mieko Takamine. She was a modern and elegant actress, and she also appeared in JR commercials in her later years. The face is original and clean, and the pink rouge remains. The blurry eyebrows and the kamaboko-shaped eyes are gentle and seem to be smiling. As an antique, it is generally very clean, but the flaws are dryness cracks on the side of the face and a very small area of exposed scalp at the top of the head. I think she has a relatively large amount of hair. The gofun of the arms, legs, and body are also clean, and the paper is still wrapped around the feet. The kimono is an antique from the early Showa era (photo 1). It is a plump, high-quality garment (kinsha, with to-hachikake and awase lining), with almost no stains or fading. The obi is in very good condition, like new. I have added an obiage and obijime (crepe craft with plum blossoms) to create a lovely outfit. The tabi are original and have some stains. The kanzashi is left to me. This person is a refined beauty, so I got excited imagining that she would look good in a chic kimono like white with black.
