A pure love story depicting the unfortunate life and tender romance of the great composer Rentaro Taki. Teacher Taki from the music school visits his hometown for the first time in several years to compose "Kojo no Tsuki" (Moon Over the Ruined Castle). There, he meets his old friend Miura, and the two reminisce as they visit the castle ruins. On the way back, Taki encounters a young boy named Kenkichi, who cannot attend school due to poverty, and gives him a silver coin. However, the next day, Kenkichi's sister, O-mitsu, scolds him and he returns the money. Taki is deeply moved by O-mitsu's family's situation. Miura knows that his sister, Shizue, is in love with Taki and subtly suggests a match. Taki, whose health is not good, confesses that he doesn't feel worthy. One day, while absorbed in composing at the castle ruins, Taki hears Kenkichi playing the flute, which touches his heart. And so, "Kojo no Tsuki" is written on the staff paper.
