Circular bowl made from precious New Zealand kauri wood. Kauri is a valuable conifer that only grows in the Waipoua Forest in the northern part of the North Island of New Zealand. It is said to be "the oldest tree in the world" and also "the slowest-growing tree in the world." It grows into a giant tree and is called the "God of the Forest." Logging has been completely prohibited since 1970. This was received as a souvenir about 40 years ago, and although it has hardly been used as a bowl, there are some stains and scratches due to aging (see photos 4-6).
