This stop-motion animation, nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 89th Academy Awards, is from Laika, the animation studio behind "Coraline and the Secret Door 3D," and depicts the adventure of a brave and kind-hearted boy set in medieval Japan. Kubo, a one-eyed boy who wields a magical shamisen and origami, lives quietly with his frail mother. Kubo, targeted by his family as an ominous child, is discovered by his evil aunts. However, he is saved by the magic his mother uses with her last strength.
